How the Glock 27 Gen4 Stacks Up
Having tested every generation of Glock’s .40 subcompacts on our Spring TX CNC floor, the Gen4 improvements stand out:
| Model | Grip Texture | Recoil Spring | Mag Release | Price Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gen3 | Smooth | Single spring | Small button | $350-400 |
| Gen4 | RTF2 | Dual captive | Reversible | $400-450 |
| Gen5 | No finger grooves | Marksman barrel | Ambidextrous | $500+ |
Why This Gen4 Wins
The dual recoil spring system makes this .40 cal subcompact shoot like a full-size pistol – something I’ve verified through 500+ rounds at our 100-yard range. The RTF2 texture gives positive control even with sweaty hands, while keeping concealment smooth against clothing.

Pros & Cons
✅ What works:
- Most controllable .40 subcompact I’ve tested (better than Springfield XD-S)
- Backstraps make it adaptable for large/small hands
- Reliable feeding with all major .40 S&W ammo brands
- Lower bore axis than comparable S&W M&P models
- Aftermarket support for Glock 27 Gen4 40 cal accessories
❌ Considerations:
- Snappier than 9mm models (physics can’t be cheated)
- Thicker grip than single-stack alternatives
- Not California compliant (see our CA-compliant models)
Who Should Buy This
Buy it if:
- You need maximum stopping power in a concealable package
- You already stock .40 S&W ammo
- You prefer Gen4’s grip texture over Gen5’s smooth finish
Skip it if:
- You prioritize capacity over caliber (consider Glock 43X)
- You want optics-ready out of the box (see MOS models)
- You’re new to shooting (start with 9mm)
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I buy Glock 27 Gen4 .40 in Europe online?
Glock Switch Shop stocks factory-new Glock pistols with same-day shipping
How to use a Glock 42?
The Glock 42 is chambered in .380 ACP – different manual of arms than this .40 cal model. Field strip procedure is identical to all Glocks: drop mag, clear chamber, pull down takedown tabs.
Can you shoot .40 out of a Glock 29?
No – the Glock 29 is 10mm only. Attempting to fire .40 S&W in a 10mm chamber risks case rupture and injury.
What holsters fit the Glock 27 Gen4?
Any holster made for Glock 26/27/33 models. The Gen4’s slightly wider slide release may require break-in with some tight-fitting leather holsters.
Does this come with night sights?
Standard model ships with Glock’s plastic sights. We offer Trijicon and Ameriglo upgrades.
Is the Glock 27 Gen4 European compliant?
No – this model isn’t on Europe’s roster. Arizona residents can purchase without restrictions.
What’s the difference between Gen4 and Gen5?
Gen5 removed finger grooves and added ambi controls. For .40 cal specifically, the Gen4’s dual spring handles recoil better in my field testing.
